Il Circo
Sam Trego began developing the show now known as iL CiRCo in 1995 for the special events market. Event planners were just beginning to recognize the possibilities of the cirque genre of entertainment for different types of special events from theme parties to product launches to awards presentations. This original creation, called Cirque Nouveau, featured acrobatic performances tied together by a cast of characters woven throughout the production. Vibrantly-colored costumes, richly-textured lighting effects and gorgeous new age music were the hallmarks of the show from its inception.

In a desire to introduce a totally unique production that was much more than a series of acts, Sam added the element of a story line to the show. He discovered an amazingly talented young boy (then only 6 years old) with the acrobatic expertise of an accomplished adult performer. Inspired by the child’s artistry, Sam created a story built around him. The story takes the audience on a journey through a fantasy-filled dream, and builds to a thrilling and inspiring performance by the boy in the show’s finale, in which the boy discovers the power of daring to achieve his dream. The success of the show in the special events marketplace was phenomenal. Because the show has such an inspiring story line, it achieved great popularity for incentive programs, motivational events and awards programs.

In Spring 2001, Sam’s company was re-born as Imagination Entertainment, At the same time, he introduced iL CiRCo, a cirque show with an entirely new look based on classic Italian Commedia dell’Arte tradition. The masked characters and spectacular costumes for the clowns and characters give this production a distinctly unique flavor.

iL CiRCo has traveled throughout the world performing for special events and public audiences, including corporate-sponsored performances at both the Sydney and Salt Lake City Olympics. The cast has grown in both size and talent, and the part originally played by our young aerial acrobatic star has been cast with a number of different child performers, keeping the story line intact.

In 2001, the cast of iL CiRCo achieved another “first”, as Imagination Entertainment rolled out Cirque de la Mer at SeaWorld San Diego, performed in the natural setting of San Diego’s Mission Bay. With a magnificent set and wildly colorful Amphibian costumes, “sea sprites” and acrobatic creatures with superhuman strength and agility entertain guests several times each day during the summer months at SeaWorld.

In March of 2003, iL CiRCo premiered at Harrah’s Casino Resort in San Diego, CA. The show featured two entirely new productions being staged for the first time, including outrageous new Commedia dell’Arte costumes and the introduction of new music by Sam Trego and his co-composer Bobby Nafarette.

The show continues to be Imagination Entertainment’s flagship production, and the company regularly auditions new performers and adds new elements that keep the show fresh. Currently in the early stages of pre-production, is a brand new show with a completely unique story line. Stay tuned for news on this exciting production that has the working title of “Carnavale”.
